Volunteer Opportunities

• Commission

  Charges

  The primary responsibilities are to receive motions from the vice speaker and assign those motions to the appropriate group. The Commission reviews and provides recommendations, including rationale for its recommendations, to the House of Delegates on practice-related motions.

  Duties

  Members of the ASRT Commission are appointed by the ASRT speaker of the House to serve for a term of one year. The primary responsibilities are to receive motions from the vice speaker and assign those motions to the appropriate group. The Commission reviews and provides recommendations, including rationale for its recommendations, to the House of Delegates on governance and practice-related motions. The Commission also reviews current ASRT Position Statements for relevancy and proposes motions to revise, as necessary.

  Time Commitment

  Commission members can expect to spend a minimum of two hours per month in January through March reviewing motions and responding to emails. Commission members are expected to participate in all meetings of the Commission, most of which occur through webinar or phone conference.

  Commission members serve a one-year term, September 1 through August 31.

  Travel Commitment

  Travel may be required for an in-person meeting at the Albuquerque, N.M., office, with expected minimum travel of three days to attend this meeting. These travel days occur during the week and on a weekend. ASRT provides financial assistance for this travel.

  Skills

  Commission members must be detail oriented, be knowledgeable of ASRT governance and practice standards processes and be able to build collaborative relationships.

  Criteria

  Commission appointees shall:

  • Be an ASRT member.
  • Be a member of an ASRT affiliate or, if active military, a member of the ASRT Military Chapter.
  • Consideration shall be given to discipline or specialty and geographic representation.

• Committee on Bylaws

  Charges

  Members of the ASRT Committee on Bylaws are appointed by the ASRT speaker of the House to serve for a term of one year. The primary responsibilities are to review proposed Bylaws amendments and submit a report to the Board of Directors and House of Delegates.

  Duties

  The Committee on Bylaws shall:

  1. Review for proper structure the proposed bylaw amendments received by the first business day of February to be included in the Committee on Bylaws report at the annual meeting of the House of Delegates.
  2. Request clarification from the maker of a proposed bylaw amendment when needed.
  3. Review the Bylaws when charged by the speaker.
  4. Submit a report of proposed amendments to the Board of Directors and House of Delegates.

  Time Commitment

  Members of the Committee on Bylaws can expect to spend a minimum of two hours per month reviewing the ASRT Bylaws, proposed changes to the Bylaws and responding to emails. Committee members are expected to participate in all meetings of the subcommittee. With the exception of the years when Bylaws are scheduled for full review and revision, these meetings occur through webinar or phone conference.

  Committee on Bylaws members serve a one-year term, September 1 through August 31.

  Travel Commitment

  In years when the Bylaws are scheduled for full review and revision, travel may be required for an in-person meeting at the Albuquerque, N.M., office, with expected minimum travel of three days to attend these meetings. These travel days occur during the week and on a weekend. ASRT provides financial assistance for this travel.

• Committee on Fellows

  Charges

  The Committee on Fellows is a standing committee of the ASRT. Committee members are appointed by and responsible to the Board of Directors. The committee shall evaluate all submitted Fellow applications and make recommendations for elevation or nonelevation to the Board.

  Duties

  Members of the Committee on Fellows must be ASRT Fellows and are appointed by the ASRT Board to serve for a term of two years. The primary responsibilities are to:

  1. Evaluate the submitted Fellows applications following established policy and procedure.
  2. Submit a midyear committee report. This report shall include:
     1. Recommendations of individuals for elevation.
     2. Recommendations of individuals for nonelevation and detailed rationale for the decision.
  3. Submit a final committee report. This report shall include:
     1. Recommendations to the Fellows Program Review Committee.
     2. Recommendations to the Board of Directors, if necessary.
  4. Notify the Board of pressing issues regarding any component of the Fellows program that requires further evaluation or action, regardless of the current review cycle timeline.

  Time Commitment

  Committee on Fellows members can expect to spend a minimum of five hours per week between August and November reviewing and scoring ASRT Fellows applications, responding to email from other committee members and participating in committee meetings. While most meetings will be scheduled between August and November, other committee meetings will be scheduled throughout the year as needed, including meetings to discuss recommendations to the Fellows Program Review Committee. All committee meetings occur through a virtual platform such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams or conference calls.

  Travel Commitment

  There is no travel required to serve as a committee member.

  Criteria

  Committee on Fellows appointees shall:

  • Be a voting member of the ASRT who has submitted a volunteer form and all required qualifying documents.
  • Be a member of an ASRT affiliate; ASRT members who are active duty military are exempt from this requirement.
  • Be an ASRT Fellow.

• Committee on Nominations

  Charges

  The primary responsibilities are to identify ASRT members to be nominated for ASRT national officer and chapter delegate positions and, when requested, for appointment or nomination as ASRT representatives to external organizations. Duties include actively soliciting ASRT members, reviewing candidate information and nominating qualified candidates to serve in these volunteer positions.

  Duties

  Members of the Committee on Nominations are appointed by the ASRT Board of Directors to serve for a term of one year. The primary responsibilities are to identify ASRT members to be nominated for ASRT national officer and chapter delegate positions and appointment or nomination as ASRT representatives to external organizations.

  • Review candidate information and present all qualified candidates for ASRT officer and chapter delegate positions.
    • Solicit qualified candidates.
    • Screen nominees to ensure they meet all qualifications according to the ASRT Bylaws.
    • Rectify any qualification discrepancies.
    • Present all qualified candidates by designated deadline.
    • Submit a list of questions or use in soliciting candidate opinions through ASRT-sponsored activities during the election.
  • Solicit nominations and present recommendations for appointment to external organizations when requested.

  Time Commitment

  Members of the Committee on Nominations can expect to spend a minimum of five hours per week from July through October contacting ASRT members to identify qualified members to nominate for the ASRT general election, reviewing emails and documents from ASRT and participating in committee meetings. Other times of the year, committee members may expect to spend a minimum amount of time soliciting members to serve as external organization appointees. All committee meetings occur through webinar or phone conference.

  
  

  Committee on Nominations members serve a one-year term, July 1 through June 30.

  Travel Commitment

  There is no travel required to serve as a committee member.

  Skills

  Committee on Nominations members must be comfortable contacting and speaking to people they may not know, soliciting opinions from others, being knowledgeable of ASRT governance processes and being able to build collaborative relationships.

  Criteria

  • Shall not be a current member of the ASRT Board of Directors.
  • Shall be a voting member of the ASRT who has submitted a volunteer form and all required qualifying documents.
  • Shall be a member of an ASRT affiliate; ASRT members who are active-duty military are exempt from this requirement.
  • Members must resign their positions on the Committee on Nominations to accept nominations for any office, delegate position or external appointment in which the committee is responsible for seeking nominations.
  • A member who has recently served on the ASRT Board will be considered for appointment when possible.

• Committee on the Student to Leadership Development Program

  Charges

  The responsibilities of volunteers on the Committee on the Student to Leadership Development Program will include providing assistance, feedback and recommendations to several ASRT departments with regards to students and the Student to Leadership Development Program. Members of this committee will also act as a liaison to their affiliate for the Student to Leadership Development Program.

  Duties

  1. Review Student to Leadership Development Program essay submissions and provide selection-ranking feedback to staff.
  2. Provide input on curricula projects when requested by the ASRT Education Department.
  3. Provide feedback to the ASRT Marketing Department on student engagement programs and services as requested.
  4. Review Student to Leadership Development Program documents as requested.
  5. Provide recommendations to the Board of Directors for past Student to Leadership Development Program participants to serve on governance committees.
  6. Support the ASRT Communities student page by actively posting discussions, documents and engaging in conversations on topics of importance to students at least once a week.
  7. Provide feedback and suggestions for improvement on the current Student to Leadership Development Program.
  8. Act as a liaison to respective affiliates for the Student to Leadership Development Program to ensure communication channels are working appropriately.

  Time Commitment

  One to four hours per month

  Criteria

  1. Shall be a voting member of the ASRT who has submitted a volunteer form and all required qualifying documentation.
  2. Shall be a current participant having completed year one of the Student to Leadership Development Program or a past participant having completed the Student to Leadership Development Program or Student Intern Program.
  3. Shall be a member of an ASRT affiliate, ASRT members who are active military duty are exempt from this requirement.

• Fellows Program Review Committee

  Charges

  The Fellows Program Review Committee is a standing committee of the ASRT and is appointed by the Board of Directors every five years. This committee shall review all aspects of the Fellows program and make recommendations for revision. These recommendations shall be presented to all ASRT Fellows and are subject to Board approval.

  Duties

  Fellows Program Review Committee Shall:

  • Review prior Committee on Fellows reports of recommended revisions.
  • Evaluate all aspects of the Fellows program.
  • Submit a midyear committee report.
  • Submit a final committee report that includes recommended revisions to the Fellows Handbook, application, and program policies and procedures.

  Time Commitment

  Committee members can expect to spend a minimum of five hours per month reviewing ASRT Fellows information, responding to email from other committee members and participating in meetings. All meetings are conducted via webinar or phone conference.

  Travel Commitment

  There is no travel required to serve as a committee member.

  Skills

  Committee members must be detail oriented, be knowledgeable about the Committee on Fellows, the ASRT Fellows application process and be able to build collaborative relationships.

  Criteria

  Each Fellows Program Review Committee appointee shall:

  • Be a voting member of the ASRT who has submitted a volunteer form and all required qualifying documents.
  • Be a member of an ASRT affiliate; ASRT members who are active duty military are exempt from this requirement.
  • Be a member of an ASRT affiliate; ASRT members who are active duty military are exempt from this requirement.
  • Not sponsor a Fellows applicant during the same year as the Fellows Program Review Committee is active.

• House of Delegates Minutes Approval Committee

  Charges

  The primary responsibilities of House of Delegates Minutes Approval Committee Members are to review and approve the minutes from the two business meetings of the House of Delegates at the ASRT annual governance meeting.

  Duties

  Members of the ASRT House of Delegates Minutes Approval Committee must be delegates to the ASRT House of Delegates and are appointed by the ASRT speaker of the House to serve for a term of one year. The House of Delegates Minutes Approval Committee shall:

  1. Review and approve the minutes from the two business meetings of the annual House of Delegates meeting.

  Time Commitment

  House of Delegates Minutes Approval Committee members can expect to spend a minimum of three hours in July and August reviewing the House of Delegates minutes and responding to correspondence in the private House of Delegates Minutes Approval community.

  Committee members are expected to attend both scheduled orientations. The first meeting will occur in a virtual platform, while the other will be held on-site the Thursday prior to the first seating of the House.

  Travel Commitment

  Since committee members are required to be delegates, they are expected to attend the ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting and should expect to travel a minimum of five days to attend this meeting. These travel days occur during the week and on a weekend.

  Skills

  House of Delegates Minutes Approval Committee members must be detail oriented, be comfortable taking complete notes during the House of Delegates meeting, be knowledgeable of ASRT House of Delegates processes and be able to build collaborative relationships.

  Criteria

  • Must be an ASRT member.
  • Shall be a member of an ASRT affiliate or, if active military, a member of the ASRT Military Chapter.
  • Shall be a member of the House of Delegates during which the minutes were taken.

• Practice Standards Council

  Charges

  Primary responsibilities include reviewing the ASRT Practice Standards for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy, for relevancy and inclusion while recommending changes or additions to be approved by the House of Delegates, as well as, researching practice issues and developing opinions through the advisory opinion statement process. Council members should be able to provide guidance on practice trends that emerge as well as promote the practice standards among the profession.

  Duties:

  The ASRT Practice Standards Council members are appointed by the ASRT Board of Directors as the 12 representatives for the practice areas recognized by the ASRT House of Delegates. Additionally, each council member serves as chair of a Practice Standards Council subcommittee for their designated area of practice.

  The Practice Standards Council shall:

  • Develop and maintain the Practice Standards for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy in accordance with approved processes.
  • Propose revisions to the Practice Standards for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy based on evidentiary documentation.
  • Research and review practice issues and recommend action.
  • Be invited to author “Standards and Practices” columns for the ASRT Scanner.
  • Educate, support and promote values of practice standards to ASRT members and medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals in maintaining the highest standards and ethics.

  Time Commitment

  During this three-year commitment, Practice Standards Council members can expect to spend a minimum of six hours per month reviewing and contributing to community postings, reviewing ASRT Practice Standards documents, and participating in council meetings.

  
  

  The year that your area of practice is due for revision, the council member can expect to spend a minimum of five hours per week from July through September facilitating the work of their subcommittee by gathering opinions from fellow chapter members about practice-related issues, reviewing and contributing to community postings, responding to email, reviewing practice standards documents, leading webinars and finalizing practice standards revisions.

  
  

  Practice Standards Council members are expected to attend all meetings of the council. Most of these meetings occur through the Zoom platform.

  Travel Commitment

  Travel may be required for an in-person meeting of the council one time per year the Albuquerque, N.M., office with an expected minimum travel of three days to attend this meeting. These travel days occur both during the week and on a weekend. ASRT provides financial assistance for this travel.

  Skills

  Practice Standards Council members must have in-depth knowledge and clinical experience in the area of practice they represent to provide opinions on behalf of ASRT members. Council members must be able to manage multiple projects, be detail oriented, be comfortable leading a group to a decision and soliciting opinions from others, be knowledgeable of ASRT practice standards processes, be able to build collaborative relationships and be able to manage group conflict.

  Criteria

  • Shall be an ASRT member.
  • Shall be a member of an ASRT affiliate or, if active military, a member of the ASRT Military Chapter.
  • Shall be a member of the chapter the council member is appointed to represent.
  • Shall be credentialed in the practice area the council is appointed to represent.
  • Shall practice in the area the council member is appointed to represent.
  • Council members shall meet the qualifications for practicing in the area being represented as defined in the House of Delegates Procedure Manual.
  • Consideration shall be given to geographic representation.

• Practice Standards Council Subcommittee

  Charges

  The primary responsibilities are to review and propose revisions to practice standards when necessary, review and comment on House of Delegates motions relating to their practice area and provide research and recommendations on practice issues and requests for advisory opinion statements related to their practice area.

  Duties

  Members of the ASRT Practice Standards Council Subcommittees are appointed by the ASRT Practice Standards Council as representatives of the 12 disciplines and specialties recognized by the ASRT House of Delegates. Council subcommittee members serve for a term of one year. The primary responsibilities are to review and propose revisions to practice standards when necessary, review and comment on House of Delegates motions relating to their practice area and provide research and recommendations on practice issues and requests for advisory opinion statements related to their practice area.

  Time Commitment

  Practice Standards Council subcommittee members can expect to spend a minimum of three hours per week from July through September responding to email, reviewing practice standards documents, participating in zoom meetings and finalizing practice standards revisions as a member of their subcommittee.

  Practice Standards Council subcommittee members are expected to attend all meetings of the subcommittee. These meetings occur through zoom platform.

  Travel Commitment

  There is no travel required to serve as a council subcommittee member.

  Skills

  Practice Standards Council subcommittee members must have in depth knowledge and real-life work experience in the discipline or specialty they represent to provide opinions on behalf of members. Council subcommittee members must be detail oriented, be comfortable working on a team and soliciting opinions from others, be knowledgeable of ASRT practice standards processes and be able to build collaborative relationships.

  Criteria

  • Subcommittee appointees shall be ASRT members.
  • An appointee shall be a member of an ASRT affiliate.
  • A council modality subcommittee member's term shall be one year.
  • Council modality subcommittee members may serve on more than one committee at a time.
  • Subject matter experts may be appointed under each modality subcommittee for practice areas that require specific expertise as determined by the council member representing the practice area.

• Sergeants-at-Arms Committee

  Charges

  The primary responsibilities are to assist the ASRT speaker and vice speaker during the ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting. Duties include assisting with vote counts, maintaining order, delivering motions and handing out materials during the annual meeting of the House of Delegates.

  Duties

  The ASRT Sergeants-at-Arms are appointed by the ASRT speaker of the House to serve for a term of one year and may not be a delegate to the ASRT House of Delegates. The primary responsibilities are to assist the ASRT speaker and vice speaker during the ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting. The sergeant-at-arms shall:

  1. Attend the annual governance meeting.
  2. Assist with setups for the annual governance meeting.
  3. Verify that all individuals are wearing an identification badge.
  4. Verify that delegates are wearing a delegate ribbon.
  5. Maintain order in the annual governance meeting.
  6. Distribute handout materials.
  7. Provide delegates with access to motion forms.
  8. Deliver motions and any other communications from the floor to the speaker.
  9. Escort nondelegate individuals onto the floor of the House when directed by the speaker or the House of Delegates.
  10. Designate which individual is next in line to speak.
  11. Time individuals at the microphone.
  12. Assist with vote counts when requested.
  13. Assist with attendance verification when requested.

  Travel Commitment

  Sergeants-at-Arms are required to attend the ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting and should expect minimum travel of five days to attend this meeting. These travel days occur during the week and on a weekend.

  Skills

  Sergeants-at-Arms must be knowledgeable of parliamentary procedures, ASRT governance and practice standards processes and be able to manage group conflicts.

  Criteria

  • Shall be an ASRT member.
  • Shall be a member of an ASRT affiliate or, if active military, a member of the ASRT Military Chapter.
  • Shall not currently be serving as a delegate.
