Meet The Elected Officers

As a radiation therapist for the last 20 years, I have been involved in the profession in many ways. During my career, I worked in the clinic as a radiation therapist and then transitioned into the educational realm. My passion for the profession is what led me to teach. My love for the profession led me to become active as a volunteer. Throughout my career, I have served on various committees and councils. I also enjoy the opportunity to mentor others on the power that volunteering has on our profession. Being an advocate for our profession is such a great honor. The last two years as a member of the ASRT Board of Directors have strengthened my passion to work for our profession.

I think a top issue facing all radiologic technologists are external factors working against the profession. It is very important to have members on the ASRT Board of Directors who are continually working for the members to address these external factors, whether it be encroachment or state licensure issues. As a profession, we address these external factors by promoting ourselves as irreplaceable health care professionals. As a Board member, I am determined to work to promote our profession.

The prime role of the ASRT Board of Directors is to represent the members and make educated, informed decisions on issues that affect the profession. The Board should work to move the profession forward and help affiliates to do the same. I have worked with all modalities within our profession. My ability to listen and evaluate all aspects of a situation and make informed decisions is an especially important skill set to support a role on the ASRT Board of Directors.

I have been a leader in the radiologic sciences for more than 15 years. As a 2023 American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Gold Standard recipient, I have proven that I will work hard and stand up for my fellow radiologic technologists. I have volunteered with the Tennessee Society of Radiologic Technologists in all board positions, including president for two terms. During these terms, I organized and ran TSRT’s annual conferences. My doctorate is in leading organizations and strategic change. I have grown as a leader through ASRT. I am an alumnus of the ASRT Leadership Academy for Educators and the ASRT Online Advocacy Academy. Additionally, I have served on the Committee on R.T. Advocacy and as an affiliate delegate for Tennessee for multiple years. My leadership experiences as an educator include being a radiography program director, serving on the faculty senate, and participating in Austin Peay State University’s leadership development program and many other college committees.

The top issue facing the radiologic science profession is the need to educate the population on who radiologic technologists are and how we are defined as a profession among the health care team. Radiologic technologists are the third largest medical profession, yet the knowledge of our scope of practice and education requirements are unknown to most. ASRT’s campaign to raise national awareness of the profession is vital to the fight against encroachment, the fight for licensure, and the fight for competitive salaries and supportive workplace environments. I will address this issue by continuing the advocacy work I have shown a passion for. As secretary, I will continue to encourage others to start educating in their workplaces, on social media, and to their lawmakers at the city, county, state and national levels.

The primary role of the ASRT Board of Directors is to make strategic decisions, set goals and objectives, and ensure that the organization is fulfilling its mission and adhering to its core values. The Board is also responsible for identifying and managing risks that could impact the organization's success. It is responsible for providing guidance and oversight to the executive team. Ultimately, the Board ensures that ASRT delivers value to all professionals and positions itself for long-term success. Through my experiences with the ASRT, TSRT and Austin Peay State University, I have demonstrated the ability to collaborate with others, direct teams, and make strategic decisions. Additionally, my advocacy work and passion for educating others about the profession align with the ASRT's mission to advance and elevate the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession.

I have been a technologist for the past 43 years and a member of ASRT for 29 years. I have been on two ASRT curriculum workgroups and served as a member of the ASRT Radiologic Technology Editorial Review Board and vice-chair and chair of the ASRT Education Chapter. I have held the offices of vice president, president and board chair for the Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiologic Technology. I also served as chair for the United Way’s state employee charitable campaign for several years, and while I was chair, the United Way saw its highest donations from employees in Texas. Currently, I am the northwest area counselor for the Texas Society of Radiologic Technologists. I also serve as vice chair of the ASRT Research and Grants Advisory Panel.

I believe that attracting new students is a prime role of the ASRT Board of Directors. Students become technologists and technologists are in short supply. I would like to see a nationwide addendum to Chair of the Board Daniel L. Gonzalez’s campaign to let the nation know that we need good candidates to join our schools to help fix the problem. Technical standards are another role of the ASRT. I spend a great deal of time with clinical facilities, staff radiographers and clinical instructors, and there is a huge disconnect between techniques being used and making sure the least amount of radiation is used without compromising quality. I would like to provide information to hospitals and clinics to help standardize dose.

The Board has a great responsibility to ensure that members and nonmembers are represented and kept informed of all issues, big and small, so that everyone is protected in practice and education. By serving on the Board, members show a strong commitment to moving the profession forward.
