Here are some tips that might help you access our online Directed Readings:
- Verify that cookies are enabled in your browser: From your Internet Explorer menu bar, select Tools > Internet Options. Click on the Privacy tab in the window that opens and then click the Advanced button. Allow first-party, third-party and all session cookies. Click OK and return to HighWire to see if these changes fixed the problem.
- Antivirus or personal firewall software might be blocking your access. If you are running security software, check the settings and verify that you are allowing cookies. If your software includes a pop-up blocker, try disabling it. Most of these programs will allow you to block ads from appearing but will allow the type of pop-up login screen the HighWire system uses.
- With antivirus or firewall software, it also might be possible to set security permissions for a specific site. If that doesn’t work, you can temporarily disable the antivirus software. If you cannot access HighWire after disabling the software, consult your software documentation or support staff to determine what settings might need to be modified to allow access to the site.
- If none of the above suggestions solve the problem, check with your IT department if you are accessing the Internet through a company or institutional network. Proxy servers or firewalls can override local computer settings on shared networks and often set to disable or not allow cookies across the network. If you are using your personal computer, please contact an MCSE-certified technician for assistance.
