In 1920, medical imaging was in its infancy as the discovery of x-rays had occurred only 25 years earlier when Wilhelm Roentgen unleashed upon the world what would prove to be one of the greatest gifts to the advancement of medicine.

His discovery would launch a field of study dedicated to the diagnosis and cure of some of the most dangerous and persistent injuries and ailments that have plagued the human race since we first walked the earth. The early years of radiology saw tremendous advancement and innovations in the machines that create medical images, but there was a serious scarcity of individuals that could understand and harness the science behind these technologies.

Enter Ed Jerman, an inventor, educator and early pioneer in the study of x-rays. He, along with 13 other individuals, would form an organization dedicated to the education and advancement of an entire profession.

This film documents the journey of that profession and the organization that has guided it through economic depressions, World Wars and global health pandemics. Follow its century-long journey from humble beginnings in a basement in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to Chicago to Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Learn how one man’s inspiring vision is now the largest association of medical imaging professionals in the world, the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, a group dedicated to the advancement and elevation of the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession to enhance the quality and safety of patient care.
